David Burrowes
Musical Director
|
David Burrowes studied the horn and singing at The Royal Manchester College of Music where he
was awarded the GRSM with honours and the ARMCM. While a lay-clerk at Guildford Cathedral,
David also sang with the Monteverdi Choir and other London choirs. He joined the choir of
Manchester Cathedral and while developing his teaching career was a member of the BBC Northern Singers.
In 1971 he formed the Tudor Consort, which broadcast for the BBC. David also performed as a recitalist,
often appearing as a soloist on BBC Radio 3. David is currently a vicar-choral in the choir of
Lichfield Cathedral and member of the Birmingham-based chamber choir Ex Cathedra.
During his singing career he has undertaken foreign tours as a conductor, a soloist and as a member
of various choirs. After a period as Musical Director of Stone Choral Society, he helped to found,
with some friends, the Barbara Walton Singers. This mixed choir of some forty singers performs music
from the Baroque, Classical and Modern periods. David gave up his teaching career in 1998 to
concentrate his energies on conducting and singing. His hobbies include a 1950s' sports
car and collecting rare LP records, especially early King's College recordings.
